‘Tis the Season for crowded stores, unending trips to the mall, more than usual spending on gifts and other necessities. It’s also the time of year for family get-togethers, lots of home cooked meals, and even more smiles and laughter. It seems like the Holidays have crept up on me so fast this year, and I don’t know if I’m ready yet!! How about you?
Well, as part of Walmart.com’s ElevenMoms, I am able to  give away a $50 Gift Card, courtesy of Walmart, to one lucky reader!!!Â
I was just in Walmart yesterday, and again today and can already tell the Holidays are here. The decorations are going up, the Santa Hats are coming out, and all of the fleece pj’s are out on the racks… Please head on over to your nearest Walmart and check things out for yourself!Â
Now, this year, money is a little tight with just about everyone, so rather then getting gifts for everyone in the family, we’re drawing names! We’re also going to do a potluck for the big dinners, that way no one person is spending all of the money on a huge meal. What are you doing this holiday season to save money???Â
Don’t forget to look for your Holiday Entertaining Guide from Walmart in your local papers this Sunday! You may also check them out by clicking on either of the links here:

Money is so tight this year,we are only doing stockings this year.We each put a few items in the stocking. We are doing a small turkey with lots of side dishes too.rachelcrisman@hotmail.com
My plan to save money this season? I try to save money all year long. The kids probably won’t get huge presents this year… but we will still get things they need at consignment stores. I’ve been shopping all year long too so it won’t be a bit hit all at once.
Thanks for the great giveaway! 🙂

We have set aside a specific amount of cash and will not put anything on credit. If I find something great for Christmas while I’m out, I use the cash I have on me at the time, then reimburse myself from the Christmas fund when I get back home. When the Christmas money is gone, we’re done. Budget, budget, budget!

My husband and I will buy for our kids, family, and a few close friends, but not for each other. I still makes candies, cookies, and goodies, and buy my baking ingredients in bulk at Sam’s club.
We (all those 18 and over) pick names: Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, etc. Then we have a monetary limit for one gift for that person. My mother rebates all year stocking up for our annual Bingo game. We all have fun “fighting” over that favorite shampoo or lipstick!

I actually started picking up clearance items a few months ago to put away for Christmas. Also, I plan on buying mostly gift cards .. instead of spending money on gifts that your not sure about .. buying a gift card ensures that the person recieving it gets the gift they REALLY want .. so you arent wasting your precious dollars.
Walmart has a great selection of gift cards for the stores AND gift cards for many popular restaraunts.
We have a very small budget this year for the nieces and nephews, and we are paying cash for everything!
@Gretablau
We are saving money this Christmas season by making a lot of our gifts this year. Actually, we made them this past summer by doing homemade jams and jellies and some other things, too. We’re going to put them in gift baskets and that’s the present.

I use my sewing, paper crafting and baking skills and give a lot of homemade gifts. We also scored a great deal on a swing set at Sam’s so that’s the BIG gift for our boys this year. I’ll probably also brave the craziness on Black Friday and try to get a good deal or two.
thanks for the chance to win!

Hi, thanks for the opportunity to win.
I will try to give handmade or homemade gifts this year. Plus, I try not too get to busy to make sure I use my coupons, there is lots of money to be saved there, too.
ceashark at aol dot com
We usually spend around $50 per couple to our sisters and brothers and a little more to our parents. This year however we have lowered everyone’s down to $15 couple. Instead of buying presents for each other we decided to make each other a card. I think I would rather have that than anything else anyway..I have also been clipping coupons getting ready for the big dinners.
My plan is to not spend money on things I do not need. I tend to buy things because either they look good to me or I want it. It’s not like a really need some of these things I buy. I plan to use more coupons.
LindaHs last blog post..The Book Giveaway Carnival! Over $748 in Books and Goodies!
I plan to order many items online. I have already informed my children, who are adults, that it will be a skinny Christmas this year.
I am not going to buy as many gifts. I am thinking of buying some gifts on Etsy, though, to support other moms. We may be drawing out of a hat, too-I brought it up but it hasn’t been decided yet. thanks!
I have been sending for every freebie I could find on the internet all year and I’m going to make gift baskets and fill with those items. My husband is out of work so we have no extra cash to spare.Plus I won a few things from entering every contest I could find so that will give me some more little gifts.
my plan to save money this season is to have a gift giving swap with all my friends and set a limit to spending so that way i don’t have to buy presents for all my friends
Well my plan earlier this year was to start Christmas shopping early, which I have. I also have a budget for everyone. And do a lot of shopping online. That saves gas, time and you can find some really great deals. And for out of state family members, I just have the shipping address to them!

coupons, sales, and gifts with purchase!
I’ve been buying small things for the past few months, and we will be just keeping things small this year. I’m also thinking of cutting down my Christmas card list, since I spend a lot of money on postage. $50 to Walmart would seriously help, so I appreciate the great contest!
This year – since it is a ‘cash Christmas’ for us — I am going to have dd(5) make a few really cute pictures – then I will transfer them to an iron-on transfer & then put them onto the environmentally friendly reusable bags. That will work for grandparents & aunts (even close family friends)

I’ve been buying presents when they were on sale all year long.
I actually shop all year round, for clearance items that I think would make good gifts. I also use coupons and stock up on good deals for food purchases so my holiday meals are less costly. I combine rebates when I can as well. I do purchase for my parents, and grandmother but the gifts are not huge because we spend more on the kids. Hubby also sends something to his family in Guatemala-we used to send boxes of items but now he is going to send a computer this year so they can get connected to Skype and then be able to talk for free via the PC. He spends alot of phone cards to call them, so doing skype to skype calls will also be saving money.

We actually start shopping for Christmas the day after Christmas. In other words, this year on Dec 26, 2008 we will begin shopping for Christmas 2009 while prices have been slashed to nearly nothing then marked 1/2 price. It works and it also relieves the stress of trying to shop last minute. Gives more time for decorating and baking!
Linda Stewarts last blog post..Are you ready for Christmas?
We shop all year ’round. Almost everything is bought on sale – we can’t afford any other way – and even the supplies for making things by hand are bought on sale.
http://twitter.com/crinklequirk
We make gifts, focus most on the kids, shop early to catch sales, do group gifts (ex. this year we are having a family portrait made), and bake goodies to give as gifts!
Katrinas last blog post..running for fun.jpg
My plan to save money this Christmas is to give the gift of food. I plan to make my own jellies, my own chocolate covered strawberries & chocolate covered pretzels, cookies, and candied nuts. I will place these items in various assortments into cute tins and baskets, and give them to family and friends.
We are in a money crunch. I’ve been a SAHM for some time–years of one income has led to credit card debt. I won’t skimp on the kids, but will look for toys that are sturdy and useful to all my kids. I will set a limit for the amount I spend on other gifts for family members.

I have been searching for the best deals online..just doing comparison shopping really helps. Also, we are being more creative with handmade gifts.
I have been preparing for this holiday season since the Spring. I was able to purchase sweaters for all the men in my family (5) during the great after season sales at Kohl’s and have been accumulating various freebies/giveaways throughout the year. I am not done, but I have made a bigger dent in everything, than I have ever have… I am now focusing on gift card giveaways and the sales for the holiday meal items.

My plan to save money this season is to make my own giftwrap from paper bags and potato stamps. I am also planning to make ALL of my christmas tree ornaments. I will also be attempting a handmade christmas with a goal of 75% of my gifts being handmade.
I am making presents instead of buying them, and for my husband’s family we are drawing names since there are so many of us!
We are drawing names for the adults this year, and having a cash only Christmas!

I’m only buying things that are on sale and I’m also making gift baskets with all the stuff I bought for cheap or got free thanks to my coupons 🙂
We have a pretty large extended family, so I decided to buy a large case of inexpensive wine and everyone gets a bottle! It comes out to about $5 per couple:)
We are buying from the mall with our discover card. Discover offers 20% back on every $200 you spend. It’s not a lot, but it is on things I would by anyway, so it saves a bit of money.

This year I am giving family Health and Beauty Baskets along with homemade treats, hot cocoa mix, and cookie jar mixes.
This year everyone is having money issues, so we all decided to set a limit of $5.00 for each child’s gift and buy nothing for the adults. (extended family) And for my own children we have set a budget of $50.00 per child, which seems kind of steep right now, hopefully things will get better though. Thanks for the giveaway.
We only have one child but have three neices and have decided to only spend five dollars per child to cut back a little on our spending. For our daughter we have been buying things she needs such as clothes from this great consignment store in town for that last few weeks so it doesn’t hit us so hard all at once. We also decided to buy her one “big” present and then just a few smaller less expensive things. We plan to only buy learning toys instead od pointless toys that get stored away after a month! Thanks so much for the giveaway! It’s so great of you to do this!!
Shopping for gifts when we happen up on “too good to pass up” deals throughout the year has put a huge dent in our gift buying … and has saved lots of money (and time in long lines). 🙂
Joys last blog post..It’s a Special Day!!
Christmas will be really slim this year (my drier broke yesterday). So I gift each that I buy with gift cards I won. Breakfast tacos and Christmas movies.
WE’repicking names this year. No more having to buy for tons of people!
To save money, I am buying presents before Thanksgiving with coupons and when many things are on sale. Also, we have set a strict limit on gift-buying and plan to bake some goodies to give out instead of gifts.
I am going to attempt to bake (LOL!!) for some of the gifts and then we are going in with other family members for groups gifts this year. m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com
To save money this year, we are going to smaller stores like Family Dollar and Dollar General for some of the gifts and buying for less people than we did last year. Plus, my husband and I are not buying gifts for each other this year. Thanks so much for a great giveaway, this would definitely come in handy!
furygirl3132[at]comcast[dot]net
We are saving money this year by setting a budget and sticking with it. We are using samples/freebies for stocking stuffers, making flavored oils for gifts for friends and not buying unneccesary gifts, just a couple quality ones that will last and are needed. Cookies are also a great way to celebrate inexpensively.
I am only planning on buying gifts for the children in the family. For my own child, he will only be 7 months, so we are not planning to get him much. That’s what grandmas are for! I am making some of my gifts (at under $5.00 per gift–once I’m done photos will be posted on my blog) and bought some great children’s books for $3.00 at Tuesday Morning. 🙂

We drew names this year to save on gift buying and the gifts we have bought have benefited a charity we support. So it does double duty and helps others!
I plan to save a bit of money and help protect the environment by using alternatives to wrapping paper. I’ll be wrapping gifts in dish towels, reusable grocery bags, T-shirts, and baby blankets.
I got a holiday job last year at Pottery Barn- I was able to get incredible gifts from Williams Sonoma etc.. for everyone at massive discounts. This year I work at a wine shop and I am buying lots of beautiful accessories and things at wholesale prices. People would never guess how little we spend on such thoughtful gifts.
We are drawing names at our family get-togethers this year instead of buying for everyone!
My husband and I have set aside a certain amount of money to use for everyone. We got lucky and had his family set an amount on how much to spend on each other, with drawing names. I know that will really help us. Lots of little homemade gifts for neighbors and friends. It feels good to know we aren’t using any credit cards to get gifts for anybody. Wahoo for our little family!
I’ve used the rebate money I have obtained for gifts. I also bought a lot of clearance items. We will spend the holidays at my home, with a smaller dinner.
amber garners last blog post..Free What? Free Gas!!
I bought gifts throughout the year, and am using coupons and sales as much as possible for groceries.
I would invest in the BHG dishes and get some party platters for the Christmas holidays and my sister’s bridal shower (she’s getting married Dec. 21!)
This year our budget is tight so my husband and I are just giving each other one gift. Our children are going to get one toy each, a book, and pajamas.
I woudl love a new wreath for my front door!
I plan on cutting back and the amount of things I buy for my kids – I tend to buy too many last minute extras that just aren’t neccessary and really add up. So I am going to go at shoppign with a focus and stick to it!
I plan on watching for really good sales and not paying regular price for anything!

With my husband only working part time….Christmas is really going to be tight! I have been picking up our feasting items as I see them on sale. I am making many of our gifts this year….I am a jewelry designs/artisan, so many of my female friends will be receiving a wonderful piece of earthy romance jewelry by Simply Willow. Other friends will receive homeade granola or hand poured candles made from recycled candles from our home.

We’ve actually done the name drawing for a couple of years but this year we plan to only buy for kids- no adults. So my brother and sisters and friends (those with kids) will only exchange presents for our children. It’s certainly tight this year!!

Yes, this year is much tighter with the economy in the shape it is in. We have decided to wait until after Christmas to do the gift giving in hopes to save money and by better gifts. My children understand the situation and like the idea of getting more for the money after the holidays. We aren’t gift giving with our siblings this year because we are now grandparents to four children. I’ve been introduced to blogging and contest giveaways by my eldest daughter. I have won one gift so far and am pleased. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Remember being with family is the most wonderful gift of all. 🙂
We are shopping after Christmas, that was my tradition last year and I’m thinking of making it our family tradition! Things are alot cheaper after the holidays and you don’t have to worry as much about lines and angry holiday shoppers or rude sales people! 🙂
kristinia at lovingheartmommy dot com
I have been shopping for a couple of months now when things go on clearance. that way I won’t be paying full price for things and won’t spend extra money by last minute shopping for full priced items!
This year my family has all decided that "if you didn’t make it….don’t give it.
However, in keeping with the idea of Christmas..the whole family is chipping in together to adopt two Angle Tree Children and make their wished come true.
Yes, we are struggling with money, but there are far more children who are worse off than us.
We will be doing a pick names from a hat at the holiday gathering for my husbands family. Also I earned some gift cards with mypoints and such which I will be using to purchase alot of my gifts.
I am using more and more coupons for groceries.
meganm021182@hotmail.com
This year I will encourage my kids to make homemade gifts for each other and we will be making homemade sentimental gifts for our extended family.
Thanks for the killer giveaway! I save money by planning ahead and making a lot of purchases ahead of time for the following year, thus, I am done shopping for my kids in January! Yay!

We are going to buy less this year. So far I have cashed in MyPoints points for two giftcards and used some gift cards that I won in contests that I have been saving. I also have been using promo codes for percent off and free shipping on online orders.
Using/finding coupons, shopping at garage sales & resale shops. Shopping WITH my kids. I have to plan more in advance that way – go in, get what I need, get out before the meltdowns.

i plan to save by making gift baskets with my cvs stockpile, making fudge and chocolates for people, i did some summer clearance shopping, and i have been using coupons for example… $10 off any $10 purchase at jcpenneys.

I search clearence sales all year long because you can save alot of money on things that your kids(and others) want.I save my finds for the holidays and birthdays. I start 1-2 months before Christmas and get cooking items on sale with coupons. Dollar stores have a good price on wrapping paper, why spend more for something that will be looked at for 5 minutes and tore off in 5 seconds.
This year my husband and I are buying only for our children, and the other family members I am making canisters of cookie mix, for them to make with their own families! I figured it is a inexpensive two gifts in one. Food and the opportunity for family time.
Thank you for the chance to win, it will go along way this Christmas!
My plan to save money is to hit the stores 5 am on Black Friday…wish me luck..lol
We plan to save money this season with our extended family by only purchasing gifts for the kids, not the adults. I’d love to win this Walmart gift certificate!

I have been getting some great stuff at walmart with coupon match-ups to give to the church for their Angel Tree Christmas giveaways to the less fortunate. It is great to be able to give so much cause Walmart’s prices are so low and it is the best place to use coupons!
I save money during the holidays by buying gifts year-round. I was practically done with gifts in September, now I am paid up with all my bills until January. That way, if I see something I must have on Black friday, I can have it and not really worry. We usually pay in advance for a summer vacation this time of year too. booking this early has its perks!
