DIY- Easy Labor Day Chips and Dips

When I think about Labor Day, I think about the beginning of football season… I also think about cookouts and fun with friends. It’s still technically Summer time, which means it’s pretty hot outside. I don’t want to spend all day cooking snacks, so I go for something quick and easy. Something I used to make for all of our cookouts while we were living in Japan, that was really quite popular, are these very easy dips.

supplesAll you need is a can or two of chili beans, or a jar or two of salsa, depending on how many people you need to accommodate, and cream cheese! If they seem too easy to be true, it’s because they are, which means they’re also great for unexpected guests on any day!

For the Creamy Chili Dip…

Take any can (or two) of your favorite chili. Or, if you make your own home made chili, you can use that too!

Heat up the chili in a sauce pan or in the microwave until it starts steaming. Take 1/2 of a tub of cream cheese and stir it up until well mixed. For extra flavor, you can add any veggies or peppers you want. Best done when cooking in a saucepan, you can add onion, bell peppers, jalapeños… Have fun with it! Once cooked well, pour into a serving dish! We serve these with Tostitos Scoops! Usually the multigrain ones when I can find them!

For the Creamy Salsa Dip…

Again, this one is very easy, and made just like the Creamy Chili Dip.

Take any jar of salsa.. or use home made salsa if you make it! Again… Heat it up in a saucepan or in a microwaveable bowl. Stir in half of the tub of cream cheese, and stir until well mixed. Pour this into a serving dish and serve with your choice of chips. We love Stacy’s Pita Chips with this!

Both of these dips are quick, inexpensive, and always get eaten up quickly!  Perfect for bringing to a cookout over Labor Day Weekend, or any Football game grub!

What are some of your biggest cookout must have’s for Labor Day? Or Football season??
