Book Club: Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

I love to read, whenever I get the time to do so. Right now, my reading time is while waiting for the girls to get out of school, or while I’m in a waiting room somewhere. Of course, when the nights get colder, the desire to curl up on the couch, under a blanket, with the fireplace on, gets greater and greater.

Finding time to read Jodi Picoult’s Latest book, Leaving Time, has been very difficult, especially since every time I picked it up, I didn’t want to put it down, regardless of what needed to get done!

For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident. Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice’s old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts. Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest: Serenity Jones, a disgraced psychic, and Virgil Stanhope, a jaded private detective. As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice- and as Jenna’s memories dovetail with the events in her mother’s journals- the story races to a mesmerizing finish. A deeply moving, gripping, and intelligent page-turner, Leaving Time is Jodi Picoult at the height of her powers.

I have loved reading the investigation into Alice’s disappearance. It took me a little bit of reading to get used to the back and forth of Alice’s point of view vs. Jenna’s and even Serenity’s, but once I got it, I was able to follow the stories a lot easier. I have always found elephants to be amazing creatures, but the stories about Alice’s research on elephants made me want to learn even more about them. I’m sure that even thought this is a work of fiction, there has to be more information out there!

I can’t give away the ending to the book, but I have to say that I really did enjoy it, and if you like mysteries, I think you would too!

Leaving Time is available at Walmart.com and your local Walmart store’s book section!
