Let’s talk toys! This year, there are so many cool toys out there for kids, and I have been given the opportunity to let my kids test them out, and give their opinions about them! In the next few weeks, my girls will get the chance to test out some of this year’s hottest toys, all Chosen By Kids, and they’ll tell you what they think! I’ll also give the mom’s views too….

How did we get the top toys list? Walmart invited kids of all ages Well, kids have spoken! Among their favorite items, Walmart found that kids are looking for toys that serve as an artistic outlet. Kids gave high marks to toys that enable them to use their imagination, illustrating that even though their taste in toys is changing, their appetite for imagination and creativity is unwavering.

So, this week, we start with the Spin Master Sew Cool Sewing Machine ($29.97 at Walmart).

The Sew Cool Machine is a revolutionary threadless device that’s perfect for a first-time sewing experience. This toy has everything your kids need to start sewing right away and allows them to create nine projects from start to finish. This threadless sewing machine includes patterns and pre-cut shapes for purses, pouches, characters and more. Encouraging imagination and hand-eye coordination, young sewers will love it because they can do it by themselves.

Kids’ perspective:

Alexandra and Victoria both thought that it was fun to use, and it’s great for little kids because it has something to protect their fingers from the needles. It’s good to make other projects with friends and family. You can make many crafts with felt.

Mom’s perspective:

It is a very safe machine, great for little ones. The box says it’s for ages 5+, and I would think it’s best for the younger age groups. While the machine does have a series of needles, there isn’t any thread. The machine uses a technique called “felting”. The needles have notches along the shaft of the needle that grab the top layer of fibers and tangle them with the inner layers of fibers as the needle enters the fabric. It gives a decent connection, but it can also be pulled apart if needed.It comes with some really cute patterns and pre-made projects, and other sewing projects can be purchased separately. Needles are not replaceable, so if one breaks,  you would have to purchase a new machine. At only $29.97, it’s a great way to foster your child’s interest in sewing and gauge their interest for moving up into a bigger sewing machine when they get older!
