It’s absolutely wonderful when we can find a movie that’s uplifting, encouraging, and good for the entire family to watch. When the Game Stands Tall is centered around teamwork, perseverance, mentorship, sacrifice, discipline and family. With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it was nice to get a little bit of family time with a family football movie night.
Once the house was clean, and the gifts were wrapped, mostly, we decided to sit and relax. Walmart sent us a copy of the movie, When the Game Stands Tall, and while my girls aren’t as into football as I am, they enjoyed the movie, and I liked the message.
Inspired by a true story, When the Game Stands Tall tells the remarkable journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans (in Concord, CA) from obscurity to a 151 fame winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport. When the streak is broken, and tragedy strikes the team, “Coach Lad” must teach his player- and the entire town- that it’s not about how you fall, but how you get back up.
We watched this movie during dinner, so rather than a typical chips and dip type recipe, I wanted to share a yummy dessert that I made especially for this movie night!
It’s quite fast, and simple to make, and it is delicious!
Apple Pie Dessert Ring
What you need:
- 4 large Granny Smith Apples
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- Lemon Juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- Apple Pie Spices
How to make it:
- Preheat oven to 350F
- Cut Apples into small pieces
- Stir in lemon juice until coated slightly.
- Mix in Sugar, and then flour until well coated
- Mix in Apple Pie Spice until well coated.
- Create a “sun” with the crescent roll dough as pictured.
- Spoon in apple mixture around the wide part of the dough.
- Fold over and tuck under, the points of the sun.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until apples are tender.
- Cut slices and serve while warm!
