The Oscars will be here Feb. 22. As usual, it features a lot of great films like American Sniper to Birdman to Whiplash and more. But if you want to see what the fuss is about, where can you watch them? They’re not on Netflix streaming. You probably will be waiting forever to get it on Netflix DVD, and most likely not available or already rented at Redbox kiosks or your local video store. Some titles like Birdman can’t even be purchased on DVD/Blu-ray until February 17th. Stop the hunt! You can find most, if not all, on Walmart’s VUDU.
What is VUDU?
VUDU is a digital video on demand service. It’s watching movies and TV digitally (through the Internet). VUDU is available on over 50 million devices, from smart TVs to smart phones, so you can visit it on the web with a PC or Mac, find the app on your iPhone or Android, use the apps on a Smart TV or internet-connected DVD/Blu-Ray player, install the apps on your Roku, PlayStation 3 or 4, Xbox 360 or One—just about everything out there. Unlike Netflix, VUDU doesn’t have a subscription or monthly fee. You just find what you want to watch, then or rent or buy it. Talk about great money savings!
We’ve used VUDU for the last year or two, and have really come to like the accessibility of newer movies! It takes forever for some movies to hit the Redbox, and I’m not sure I want to buy them right away. VUDU is great for renting last minute movies, since you know they’re not going to be “out of stock”.
One of the search features on VUDU right now, is the Oscar’s Page. This page is useful for finding the newest movies and TV shows, like this year’s Oscars best picture nominees, which are conveniently listed in this page www.vudu.com/oscars. There you can find the best picture nominees as well as past winners.
It’s also very useful because the best actor, actress, director, etc… are also listed—so you can see the other movies and TV shows these artists have made.
In the More Nominees section, you’ll find movies for other categories, including the very-important-to-families ‘Best Animated Film’. Big Hero Six, The Lego Movie, How to Train You Dragon 2 and other family friendly are available to both own and rent from as low as $0.99.
A lot of newer movies are for purchase first, then only become available to rent when the DVD or Blu-ray is released on stores. For example, Birdman and The Theory of Everything are available now to own and will become available to rent on February 17th. Other movies like Selma and American Sniper are still in theaters, so they’re only for pre-order. If you pre-order a movie, it will be automatically added instantly when it’s released.
Now is a great time to catch up on Oscar nominees and winners new and old, then on February 22nd, see if you agree with the Academy! Head over to VUDU and check it out!
