Three years ago, Walmart launched their global Women’s Economic Empowerment initiative aimed at improving the lives of women around the world. A piece of that commitment was to source $20 Billion from women owned companies. Well, March 8 is International Women’s Day and the month of March is Women’s History Month, so Walmart is featuring 6 different items in store, that are manufactured by women owned companies across multiple categories.
These items include:
Milo’s Sweet Tea (Family business, all natural ingredients)
Budget Saver Popsicles
CLR Remover (chemicals safe for the environment)
Smart & Sexy Bra (CEO is mother of 7)
Carter’s Infant Shoes
Hefty Trashcan
While these are our 6 items featured in store, they have more than 10,000 items online and in store that are women owned. Walmart has launched a portion of their site that goes directly to the products made by these Women-Owned businesses.
So, what constitutes a Women’s Owned business? Well, a women-owned company is a company that is at least 51% owned by women and also ran by a woman! Did you know that Women-owned businesses contribute over $1.3 trillion dollars to the US economy? Women are also responsible for over 80 percent of the consumer decisions globally.
Walmart’s goal is to provide exposure to their customers and associates and really stress the importance of women owned businesses.
While you’re shopping around online, be sure to look for the products with the Women Owned badge on them!
