So, apparently, making noodles out of vegetables is all the rage these days… so I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon and see what it’s all about. Those of you who are gluten free– This one’s for you– or anyone else who’s looking to lower their carb intake.
Noodles from vegetables- Yes it can be done, and it can be done very easily with the Veggetti Pro! What is it? The Veggetti Pro is a table top spiral vegetable cutter, and it is pretty cool! It says that it’s great for zucchini, squash, carrots, cucumbers, and potatoes… and more… I was sent one to try out via the Walmart Moms program and let you know what we think about it. We used it to cut 3 different veggies for tonight’s dinner, and it actually made dinner preparation go a lot faster!
Here’s how it works.
There are three blades. Thick spiral, thin spiral, and ribbon blades are available for you to use depending on what you are making. I tried all three of them tonight on different items. First, I used the thin spiral blade to make noodles out of the zucchini… It was really easy! First, I unpacked and washed up the machine. There’s a switch on the side to secure it to the counter with the built in suction cup. Next, I trimmed the zucchini ends to make them flat so I could secure it into the machine easier. Once it’s on, just turn the handle and apply a little bit of pressure towards the blade. The machine does the rest!
The noodles do come out as looooooong noodles, so you’ll have to trim them with a knife every so often depending on how long you want them.
The next blade we tried was the ribbon blade, with an onion. Again, it was clean off the first layer or two, cut the ends flat, and secure in the machine. Turning the blade, meant slicing up two onions in less time than if we would’ve cut them with a knife. Of course, the noodles were long, so we had to cut them shorter before cooking. They don’t look like ribbons in the bowl because we had already trimmed them, and, well, onions natural layers made this one perfect without having to use the spiral blades.
Last, but not least, we used the thick spiral blade to cut potatoes. I wanted to see how well it would make curly fries. The thick spiral blade didn’t seem to cut very much thicker than the thin spiral blade, but it’s ok!
The potatoes were tossed with a little bit of olive oil and Creole seasoning and baked on a pan in the oven until they were crispy… The girls loved them!
The rest of the veggies went into our Sausage and Peppers with Brown Rice dinner. One of our family favorites that the girls had been asking for this week.
The Veggetti Pro is available at your local Walmart stores, or online at Walmart.com for just $24.88! It’s a great way to eat a little healthier, and/or make meal prep just a bit easier! Check it out and let me know what you think!
