When Fall rolls around, all I can think of is FOOTBALL! Time to bring out all the Fall decorations and be ready to settle in for some great times with family and friends. Yes… My Fall decorations include LOTS of football themed items too! Well, as if I didn’t have enough, I thought of something I really needed for my downstairs bathroom… Football themed towels… These are very simple to make, and very affordable. These towels even make a great idea for your football fanatic friends and family!
Towels.. I got two Extra Absorbent bath towels from Better Homes & Gardens (only $5.88 ea) and two Essential True Colors hand towels from Mainstays (only $2.97 ea).
Cotton Print Fabric in your favorite NFL, or NCAA Sports Team design. I picked out the Pittsburgh Steelers Team Fabric for just $8.97/yd
Thread and a sewing machine!
That’s it!
How you make it:
First, you’ll need to decide what direction you want the fabric to be on the towel, and how wide you want the bar to be. Measure it up against the towel and cut to the size you’d like. I used a large cutting wheel and a straight edge to ensure that I had straight cuts. Be sure to leave a little extra on each side to fold over and sew on.
Iron the strip of fabric so that it is even, has straight edges and fits on the towel!
Be sure to check the fit on the towel so that it fits all the way across and is even along the bottom!
Sew along all 4 sides as close to the edge as possible, without falling off!
For the larger bath towels, I wanted to make sure the fabric stayed put while I sewed it on. I ended up pinning the fabric in place before sewing it to keep it from moving. It definitely helped out! Again.. sew all 4 sides as close to the edge as possible!
Enjoy your towels!!! It took me less than an hour to cut, iron and sew all 4 towels, and I was able to do all of this for under $30! I’ve already thought about making more of these for Christmas gifts using sports teams, or even just really cute fabrics! I’m still trying to decide if I should make a set for my hubby… We don’t agree on football teams…
