This Saturday, October 10th, Walmart is holding America’s Biggest Health Fair from noon to 4pm in more than 4,400 stores across the US. During the event, you can receive free blood glucose and blood pressure tests, vision screenings, product samples and health insurance information, as well as immunizations administered by Walmart’s more than 17,000 licensed pharmacists. (Programs may vary by store).
All of these screenings and procedures are FREE and can take less than 10 minutes to complete, and are proven to be highly valuable to many people who may otherwise go undiagnosed for diabetes and high blood pressure.
I’m here to give you 10 Quick tips to a healthier you…
- Drink Water! Many people, myself included, need to make sure that you get the proper amount of water in your body. Water flushes toxins, keeps you hydrated, and yes, keeps you regular… I’ve started keeping a water bottle with me all the time. Anytime I see it, I take a drink.
- Take a Walk! Take 10 minutes of your lunch break and go outside into the fresh air for a quick power walk! It will refresh and reset your brain so that you can get through the rest of your day. Just 10 minutes of exercise a day can lower your risk of heart disease.
- Eat your fruits & veggies! I know they aren’t the easiest things to eat sometimes. Try them in different forms. Raw, Steamed, Grilled… There are so many ways to eat your veggies! Take some time to cut and wash them up and package them so they’re quick and easy to grab for a snack!
- Take a stretch break! If you sit in a chair all day for work, take a couple of minutes to stand up and stretch. Give your back a break! Getting your eyes away from the computer screen will help too!
- Plan your meals. Take a few minutes before you go grocery shopping and plan out your meals for the next few days. I actually sit down with cookbooks and plan our dinners for two weeks out. It helps me know what to buy, which saves us money, but it also helps me plan out healthy foods for my family!
- Park further away when out shopping. Don’t take the closest parking spot to the doors! It’s a little bit comical seeing cars circling the parking lots looking for a close spot… especially at the GYM! Get in those extra steps by walking just a little bit further!
- Wake up 10 minutes earlier so that you can eat breakfast! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gets your metabolism going, and studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are less likely to be obese.
- If you’re feeling down, ask yourself “What are you doing to do about it?” Use the negativity to fuel yourself to make a good change!
- If you have kids that do homework after school, stop randomly and take a quick dance break! They’ll appreciate the break, and the giggles from everyone will keep them happy while they get back to their tasks, and you’ll smile while you prep for dinner!
- See a doctor- Don’t put off taking care of yourself! Most screenings take less than 10 minutes! Get your blood panel done, get your glucose tested, make sure that you are healthy!
