Mommy Brain Reports on- Wii Fit!

Yes, I bought into all of the hype. Yes, I spent my hubby’s hard earned money on a Wii Fit. Apparently, the last Wii Fit in Sacramento, since everywhere I called said they were out, until I called Walmart in Natomas. The gal that answered the phone said they had one left… and I was out the door. Sure enough, she had held it at the register for me! What a sweetheart!

The $89.74 price tag almost made me think twice before swiping my card.. but the crazy, dying to try this thing side of me won out. I got my receipt and got outta there! This thing was super heavy! I wasn’t expecting that. I got out to the car where my mom was waiting for me, since she drove 🙂 Hopped up into the van, and headed home. I opened up the box to see what was inside, and got the instruction manual. It was a book! I could just imagine how much work this was going to be… but that’s what I wanted.

Once home, I put the disk into my Wii, and put the batteries into the Wii Fit balance board. I created my profile with my Mii, and started with the set up of the board and syncing it to the Wii Fit. It was pretty self explanatory, and easy to do. It ran me through some simple balance tests to see how I stood up, which was a little surprising to me. It also acts as a scale and takes your BMI. This was the most embarrassing part of the whole thing. I didn’t know that this thing would call me a fatty in front of everyone! Boo! Not only does it tell me that I’m in the overweight area, but my cute little Mii ballooned up to match my BMI and weight… Thank goodness it’s only for the Wii Fit, otherwise, I’d probably never turn on my Wii again. Ok, not really…

As soon as all the tests were done, I got to choose my personal trainer… The choices were male or female, not that it really matters, but those were the choices. I was given my Wii Fit Piggy bank so I could start collecting coins with all of my exercise time. The more coins I collect, the more fun things I get to unlock! I also got to set goals for myself as far as how much BMI and weight I wanted to reduce is a specific amount of time…  Now to start working out.

I started with the yoga section since I’m addicted to yoga. The poses were fairly easy to do, but to actually keep the balance where it wanted me to was hard! I did pass each of the poses I was originally given, which raked in a few coins and a new unlocked strength training item. WOO HOO! So, then, on to the strength training! Wow. Some of them were pretty tough for my chubby little Mii… oh, and me too.. LOL. I got through all of them, and unlocked something new. I tried some of the aerobic exercises, and moved on quickly to the balance games. They are harder than they look! Here I thought this thing was going to be super easy, but no. It takes some work… and it’s addicting! I kept trying for higher and higher scores on a few of the games. I actually ended up playing the Wii Fit until nearly midnight, I was having so much fun!

The next day I took it out to let my girls play with it. They’re only 2 (almost 3) but they loved it too! They especially love the Balance Games! I did have to help them out a little to make sure they didn’t actually jump on the balance board for the ski jump, but other than that, they were able to do most things by themselves after one try with my help. They also beat almost all of my scores… Little Geniuses… LOL.

I did skip a day since I went to my usual yoga class, and when I turned it on the following day, the darn thing scolded me for not exercising with it! Goodness… talk about a guilt trip! I guess it will help keep me motivated… That, and my little chubby Mii.. I want that thing skinny again!!!

A week into owning this Wii Fit, I still like it! It’s a lot of fun as a family “game”, and it keeps us off of the couch! I think the Wii is definitely onto something with all of their games requiring movement of some kind. I hope it’s a step in the right direction of curbing the childhood obesity trend. We need it!!!

Like I said, the price tag is a little high, especially with how expensive everything else is now-a-days, but it is fun! I highly recommend getting it if and when you can! It might take a few phone calls to the local retailers, but they usually tell you when they’re expecting some… Good luck finding it!!!
