Similac Recall: An alternative choice

Just yesterday, I received a letter in the mail from Similac. Similac recalled a large amount of their infant formulas because pieces of beetles were found in their powdered products. Not harmful or toxic, but gross! Who would want to give that their baby?? Not me! I know many moms who are taking their cans of Similac back to the store, and looking for an alternative.

I was at Walmart yesterday and saw the shelves were cleared of the Similac powdered formula, with a note explaining the recall. There were a couple of moms there that were trying to figure out what to buy instead. I saw one reach for another name brand formula, and offered her a suggestion. I told her about the Parent’s Choice formula that was on the shelf right above where the Similac used to be. I showed her the price difference, and the labels on the Parent’s Choice and the other name brand. I explained how the Parent’s Choice is nutritionally equal to the name brand formulas, yet they were much less expensive. We used Parent’s Choice when my girls were little, and it was perfect for us!

The ladies walked away with a can of formula each. I truly hope that they make that change. It would save them so much money.

I’ve seen comments over the internet stating that it’s *generic* so it’s not as good as the name brands. That statement is simply not true. There is no such thing as *generic* when it comes to infant formula. A majority of the reason that the name brands are so much more is because they have to pay for their enormous marketing budget somehow! They pass on the costs of all of their marketing, including ads, and product samples, to the consumer. The products use very similar ingredients, and they are all nutritionally equal thanks to very strict regulations from the FDA.

We used Parent’s Choice, and our girls did excellent on it. They are very happy and healthy girls… If you use formula, give Parent’s Choice a try!
