Refresh your backpack for the new school year!

It’s back to school time, and this year, I get to experience the hustle and bustle of looking for the latest and greatest, hippest and coolest things. Oh my goodness, it’s enough to make your head spin.

I know every kid wants to have a new backpack every year, but if last year’s is still in good shape, why spend the money? Why not just refresh the one you already have with some cool designs???

You can find fabric paints, iron on jewels, patches, stickers, and all kinds of fun things at your local Walmart! Try doodling on your bags with Sharpie Markers or Crayola Fabric Markers or Crayons.

There is an awesome tutorial I found from Crayola that shows you how to decorate your own book bag too! It recommends a bag made from poly/cotton, cotton or denim. You can find plain book bags at many craft stores. If you’re looking to decorate your old backpack, you can doodle with Sharpies, and even add glitter if you’d like with some Glittered Fabric Paints. Just let your imagination go crazy with it!

Another idea is to make your own iron on transfers! You can buy the Avery iron on transfer sheets at Walmart, or any craft store! Find some designs you like online and send them through your ink jet printer! You could also draw them out with a permanent marker if you want to make your own, cut them down to size and iron them on according the transfer paper directions! I’ve made several things with the Dark Fabric Transfer Paper, and they’ve held up pretty well in the wash, and use.

These are just a few ideas to get you started! Make it a fun craft with your kids, or ask your parent’s permission before doodling on something they just bought! Have a great School Year!!!
