Disc to Digital Now at Walmart

America Wants Digital Access, and Walmart wants to give them a way to have the  convenience and simplicity of digital access to their movies!

Well, Walmart, in partnership with the major Hollywood studios, is announcing Walmart Entertainment’s disc-to-digital service – a first-of-its-kind exclusive in-store service that gives Americans the freedom to access their previously-purchased DVDs and Blu-ray movies when and where they want, from Internet-connected devices including televisions, tablets, smartphones, gaming consoles and more. The service is powered by VUDU, the industry-leading video streaming service. Walmart Entertainment’s disc-to-digital service has been available starting  on April 16, 2012 in more than 3,500 Walmart stores

No other retailer is capable of bringing a disc to digital service to market.  

Walmart Entertainment Disc-to-Digital is Simple and Affordable

Customers simply bring their DVD collections to Walmart and an associate handles the conversion – no upload is necessary and customers keep their discs. Your disc doesn’t even have to be playable. They are just verifying ownership of the disc and providing you with a digital license to play the movies through your vudu account.

The process to convert previously-purchased DVD/Blu-ray movies to digital copies is quick and simple:

  • Bring your movie collections from the participating studio partners – Paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. – to your local Walmart Photo Center.
  • A Walmart associate will help you create a free VUDU account.
  • Tell the associate how you’d like your movies converted:
  • Convert a standard DVD or Blu-ray movie for $2; or,
  • Upgrade a standard DVD to an HD digital copy for $5.
  • Walmart will authorize the digital copies and place them in your VUDU account. No upload is necessary, and you get to keep your physical discs.
  • Log onto VUDU.com from more than 300 Internet-connected devices to view movies any time, any place.

Walmart Entertainment’s disc-to-digital service is very affordable. It costs just $2 to convert each DVD or Blu-ray Disc to a digital copy. Customers can also choose to upgrade a DVD to HD for $5. There is no charge to set up a VUDU account or to access your content through VUDU once it’s converted.

Currently, thousands of titles are available to be converted from Paramount Home Media Distribution, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
