Walmart believes strongly in supporting those who have given the most to our country – our service members and veterans. That’s why in 2010, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation committed $10 million over five years to help our nation’s heroes find employment when they come home. Then in 2011, they doubled that number to $20 million. Every day, we’re looking for new ways to fulfill that commitment. Learn about some of the things that they have done so far through some of their partner organizations, such as Veterans Green Jobs, Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Veterans with Disabilities and the American Red Cross.
Walmart also has the “ithanku” app on their Facebook page, where you can share your message of thanks to our troops. You can share a photo, video or message of thanks to our active duty Troops and Veterans. Selected messages will be show during NBC Sports Network’s broadcast of the 2012 Carrier Classic!
Your local stores are involved as well! Customers can sign the Flag of Thanks in a majority of Walmart stores starting the week of November 11th. This is a special opportunity for customers and employees to express appreciation and gratitude to Veterans for their service. The Flag of Thanks will be on a large board measuring approx. 4’x6′ that will allow local communities to write separate notes of thanks for their service to our country (red and white note cards will be provided with the flag). Customers will be given these note cards to write their words and then attach them to the board using the enclosed clips. Once the board has been filled with notes of appreciation, the Flag of Thanks will be presented to the local VA Hospital Center, local VFW or American Legion after the event.
