Now that the price of gas has started dropping, we’re all pretty relieved that our commute isn’t dipping so far into our wallets. But did you know, there’s a way to save even more while buying the groceries you already need? Here in the Sacramento area, there are two stores that I know of that participate in this type of promotion. Raley’s/Bel Air and Safeway.Â
At Raley’s/Bel Air, if you spend $50 in groceries, you will receive a 10¢ off per gallon coupon, and with $100 in groceries, you will receive a 25¢ off per gallon coupon. We do a lot of our grocery shopping there, so it’s handy for us! Safeway gives a 10¢ off per gallon coupon when you spend $50 in groceries, and if you use your Safeway club card, you can also get other discounts off of gas.Â
You do have to be careful though. You don’t want to buy groceries just for the sake of getting that coupon! If your grocery bill only comes up to $35, you don’t want to run around grabbing random items just so you can make it to $50 and get that 10¢ off coupon! You won’t be saving any money! Also make sure that you do some shopping around on groceries! I’ve found Bel Air and Safeway to be fairly comparable on grocery prices on some items, less or more expensive on others… Also compare the prices of gas in the area! Sam’s Club and Costco tend to be about 10-12¢ cheaper than Bel Air without the coupon, but you have to be a member to use those gas pumps. Arco AM/PM are usually cheaper too, but if you pay with am ATM card, they charge you an extra 40¢ surcharge to fill up.Â
The savings aren’t HUGE, but when you add it all up over time, it does help out! Here’s a break down!Â
25¢ off per gallon, with 18 gallons of gas purchase would save you $4.50 and if you fill up your gas tank every 2 weeks, that’s a yearly savings of approximately $117.
10¢ off per gallon with 18 gallons of gas purchase would save you $1.80 and if you fill up your tank every 2 weeks, that’s a yearly savings of almost $50.Â
Just a little bit of your Sunday Savings!
