Panasonic leaves me with more questions than answers

My husband and I recently decided to upgrade our cordless phone system for the house. Our old one was a few years old, and not working so well any more, so we decided to go on the lookout for a new phone system. We had a Panasonic, and never had any problems with it. I loved the menu options, and the fact that it had 3 handsets. Towards the end though, it just wasn’t working so well. I figured we had really gotten our time and money’s worth, so I opted to get another Panasonic set.

We purchased the KX-TG9334T 4 handset cordless phone and answering system and had really high hopes with all of the cool new features it had. It was definitely an upgrade from our old system, the KX-TG5583. I was very excited to have found it on sale at our local Fry’s store, and plugged everything in as soon as we got home. We waited the suggested 7 hours before we started using it, actually longer since we didn’t use it until the following morning, and were very happy with the features. It was great! We even went with Comcast so we could use our regular phone jacks in the house and move our base unit downstairs. Things were looking good. Until a week later. One of my handsets started cutting out when I was on the phone. The screen would flash, and then go blank. Like the handset lost all power. When it finally came back, it would tell me that the line was in use, but I couldn’t use that handset to get back on the phone. It would actually hang up on whoever I was talking to, and then tell me that the handset needed to be registered with the base. I tried re-registering it and it still would die out on me. The screen said the battery was full, so I don’t get it. Anyway.. After a couple of weeks went by, three out of the four handsets were doing the same thing, and I had just had it. I took it back to the store where I bought it, and they were very kind to exchange it for another unit. Really liking this set up, I just made an even exchange and took the new set home to charge.

It’s been less than a week with the new set, and now once again, one of the handsets is flashing and cutting off on me. So last night, I called Panasonic to see what they could do for me, if anything. I spoke to an agent that told me I could sent the unit back for a repair, or possible replacement. I then asked how long I’d have to wait for my phone, and he told me 7-10 business days. I explained to him that would not work for me, as my home is also my business, and I needed to have access to my phone number. So he placed me on hold again, and when he came back, he told me they could do an “advance” exchange where they can send me a replacement and then I can send mine back to them. So out of curiosity, I asked if I’d be getting a new phone, or a refurbished one. He checked and told me that it would be a refurbished one. That’s just not acceptable to me. i bought this phone brand new, I would expect to receive a new one in return. I can understand getting a refurbished unit if I’ve had this a year, or even a few months, but definitely not a week. I paid full price, I want a new one. Well, when I told him that that wasn’t acceptable to me, he put me on hold one more time. When he came back he told me that there was nothing he could do about it, and refurbished units were all they had. He, couldn’t tell me any more information about the problem I was having with the phones, so I didn’t know if this was something that has been happening, or if the store has a bad shipment of phones. Well, when he told me it was a refurb or nothing, I just said thanks, but I’ll just take it back to the store and exchange it for a different brand of phone. I’m really disappointed because I love my phone. I just can’t see spending that much money on a set that doesn’t function properly, and then the service the big company gives is sub-par.

So anyway, this is my latest gripe.. Maybe I’m just being super picky, but you know what, it’s my money, and I can be picky about it!!!
