What is a Staycation? Well, it’s like taking tiny little trips around your local area, some just day trips, some involve a night at a hotel or two. The main difference is, instead of spending tons of money to go far away for a longer period of time, you get to see more of your local area on shorter trips whenever possible. We like to take little weekend trips here and there, and it’s actually been how we “vacation” since we’ve moved to North Carolina. We’ve learned so much about the history of the area, and found some really fun places to hang out with the kids!
Most of the places we’ve visited have been within 5 hours of home. The longer the drive, the better chance we’ll grab a hotel and stay a little longer. Quite of few of these places have been much closer, and we can hit a few places in just a couple of days!
Some of the places we’ve been to over the last few years include:
The Outer Banks: Beautiful Beaches, awesome light houses, and the Wright Brothers Monument in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
Charlotte: Great Wolf Lodge, US National Whitewater Center
Raleigh/Durham: Marbles Kids Museum, Concerts & Plays
Fayetteville: Fascinate-U Children’s Museum
Crystal Coast: More Beautiful Beaches, Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, Fort Macon, NC Maritime Museum
Cape Fear: The Battleship USS North Carolina, Wilmington River Boat Rides, Ocean Isle, and so much more!
Most of these trips have been Day trips, but a few of them were taken over a longer weekend. Some were somewhat educational, but no matter where we went, we were sure to have a TON of fun!
Now even though you’re not going too far from home, some of those overnighters/weekenders still require you to pack, but part of the low stress frills of staycationing, is packing light! We stock up on our travel supplies at our local Walmart store. In fact, for our latest staycation, we needed to grab sunscreen, and OFF bugspray! Of course, there’s always other things I can grab, and I usually do. I love smaller travel sized items, and if we don’t use them, they’re good to have on hand for guests who forget things! What’s great is that no matter where you go, or how long you stay, Walmart stores will have just about everything you need for your trip, and at their Every Day Low Prices, you know you’re going to be saving money on supplies that you can spend on souvenirs! While you’re shopping, check out the book section and see if you can find a travel guide on your home state! Don’t forget to check the internet for some great places too!
I would love to hear about some of your favorite places to visit on your staycations! Let me know in the comments below!!!
