Virtually Indestructible Flashlights

Rayovac has a line of Virtually Indestructible lights that are really cool. We were sent two different lights to try to break, and of course, I had to steal them back from my hubby in order to put them to the test. Of course, he was super excited when he saw the Virtually Indestructible LED 3AAA Camo Flashlight. He claimed that for his hunting bag.

As soon as it was dark outside, we immediately took both flashlights outside to check how bright the different settings were. We stood on our back deck and shined the light into the woods behind our house. First, the Camo FlashlightOn it’s brightest setting, (120 Lumens/160 meters) We were able to see pretty far into the trees. On it’s lowest setting, we could see quite well within our fence line. We talked about how these would be perfect to keep in our hurricane kits, and then hubby decided to keep one in his hunting gear pack. We also talked about how perfect these are to keep in a purse in case of an emergency! The lights are super bright, and if I were to ever be caught in a situation, I could take it out and flash it at someone who was coming up on me. It would definitely stun their eyes! *Note- Don’t shine in anyone’s eyes for fun 🙂

Our next step was to try some things to break these lights. For this… I gave them over to the girls. One of my daughters wanted to try breaking it by throwing it. I let her throw it out and then throw it up as high as she could. She threw it a little wonky the first time and it came back and hit the deck square on the railing. It made a loud noise and scared us both, but the flashlight lived through it without a scratch or dent. After all the tossing and throwing we took a look at it, and the worst bit was some dirt and grass on it….

The Camo flashlight had to suffer a different test. This one was testing it’s water-resistance-ness. These flashlights are Water Resistance rated IPX4… What does that mean? It means that they are splash resistant. The equipment has been splashed from all angles for at least 5 minutes.  Basically, this can handle being rained on, or splashed, but it is not submersible. Stuck in a storm? You’ll be ok, Fall into a river or pond, you might want to try letting it completely dry out before trying to turn it on again.

For our test, we turned it on, and put it in the kitchen sink and took turns spraying it with water for about a minute, and it still worked afterwards! Impressive!

Now that the tests are done, and they’ve all passed the flashlights are an official part of our family’s kits.
