Walmart Moms Book Club Begins- Debbie Macomber Rose Harbor in Bloom

I don’t get the chance to read books very often, and I tend to read a lot of books about ghosts, and vampires, etc… I know.. I’m strange… But, when we were asked if we wanted to start a book review club within the Walmart Moms group, I figured I should take a bit of my own advice and try something new. I always tell my girls that you can’t tell if you’ll like a book or not, just by looking at the cover, or reading the back. You need to try it for at least 8 pages and see how it goes. When I received our first book, I did just that.

Our first book is called Rose Harbor in Bloom, and it’s written by Debbie Macomber, and it didn’t take 8 pages for me to be absolutely hooked. I don’t get a lot of time to read at home, We just happened to have a trip planned and it required some decent driving time. This time, hubby was driving, so I brought along my book to read. I was almost instantly sucked in, and missed minor conversation or two that he had attempted to start with me.

So what is this book all about?

Rose Harbor in Bloom is the second book in the Rose Harbor series, based in the Rose Harbor, Washington. I have not yet read the first book in this series, so I came into it with no backstory.

This story concentrates on the story of three women in particular, alternating between the three.

Jo Marie purchased the Bed & Breakfast as a place to help her recover from the loss of her husband Paul. He was serving overseas in the Army when the helicopter he was traveling in went down in Afghanistan. His body had yet to be recovered, so she has been holding out the slightest bit of hope that he was still alive. She has a lot of strange interactions with her handyman, Mark, who she feels is quite grumpy and really keeps to herself. She seems determined to figure him out.

Annie has booked the Inn as a place to celebrate her grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. She’s trying to get away from her ex- fiancee,  Lenny who, after 6 months, still hasn’t taken the hint that it’s over. To complicate things, her childhood friend/tormentor, Oliver has decided to crash her party and she isn’t happy. Not only is she dealing with all of this, but now, she is also confused by her grandparents constant bickering at each other, when all she could think of is how loving they are toward each other.

Mary has flown over from New York to get away while she is still recovering from breast cancer. Although scared to make the initial call, she finally reconnects with the man she still loves but left 19 years ago to further her career and has to deal with some very painful memories and feelings, both from her past with George and the coming out of cancer.

This book was one that I just couldn’t put down. I read until it was too dark to read while we were traveling and snuck time to read with the small reading light while everyone else fell asleep quickly.

If you’re looking for a good read, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try! Now I’m off to read the first book in the series so I can get all caught up!

Stay tuned for more book reviews in the near future!
