Halloween is just around the corner, and with that, I want to talk about safety while out Trick or Treating.

Many of the costumes children wear are very dark. Goblins, witches and cute little Kitty Cats all have some pretty dark fabrics, and most don’t have any reflective materials on them at all. In many areas, like ours, Trick or Treating doesn’t really start until it gets dark, and that can be very dangerous for everyone! Children need to be visible at all times while they are out! There are many ways to stay visible, including using lighter colored clothing, or adding reflective items to your children’s costume. Another idea is to make sure that your children carry something bright with them, like a good flashlight, or glow stick.

Your child should be able to be seen by motorists as easily as possible.

Here are some great ways to keep children safe during Trick or Treating:

·         Carry a flashlight or wear a glow stick while walking around

·         Trick or Treat in groups, with adults present

·         Check candy before consuming

·         Look both ways before crossing the street

·         Costume and accessories should be short, soft and flexible

These are just a few ways to be safe on Halloween!
