Apple Fest is back!

It’s Fall Y’all!!! That means that Apples are in season, and Walmart has no shortage of them! From Honey Crisp and Sweet Tango, to Macintosh and Gala, there’s something there that’s sure to tempt your taste buds.

apple1Apples are great by themselves as a quick snack, or as part of an elaborate recipe. Either way you have them, they’re super yummy. I often times think of apples as a dessert treat, but really, they can be made as part of any meal. I personally like to slice them up and add them to my salad. They’re crispy like croutons, but healthier for you!

Apple2There is another way to make Apples into a tasty treat, and that’s by warming them up with a little bit of brown sugar and some spices. It’s almost like having an apple pie, but without the crust. It’s a great way to warm up your tummy when it’s cold outside too! Check out this recipe using McIntosh Apples that I got from Walmart!

What you need:

  • 4 McIntosh apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter

How you make it:

  1. Toss together first 4 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag.
  2. Cut the apples into thin slices and put in the plastic bag.
  3. Toss to coat the apple slices well.
  4. Cook apple mixture, 2 Tbsp. water, and 1 Tbsp. butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally
  5. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until apples are tender.

There are so many different types of apples, and so many different types of recipes you can make, and Walmart has everything you need to make those recipes too!!
